Description
We all know what Santa does on Christmas Eve, December 24, but what does he do during the rest of the year?
There are only so many cookies a man can eat, only so much time he can sit in a rocking chair and look through a list. Santa is an active man, a man of purpose and creativity, and it makes sense that – during much of his time – he works and creates and makes beautiful things.
And so we find him In the Workshop.
Focused and intent, Santa enjoys the hours he spends with tools in hand, lovingly working with wood, fabric, paint and more as he fashions special, beautiful toys for the boys and girls of the world. Standing for hours, sanding and sawing and planing – these activities are those of an active man, and such is Santa.
He is moving, working, creating, thinking, doing, but not in the manner expected by the corporate world, which rewards busyness without rest (and creativity), for the sole and primary purpose of creating a profit for shareholders. Santa’s work is work at its best: work that is also play, because it involves not only his physical energy but his mind as well. Work, good work, satisfying work, requires both.
Good work also requires that the end result of all that energy be good, and this is so with with what Santa makes and does. His finished toys, each held in his hands, are destined for a special child, and his warm wishes and loving thoughts go into all of his creations.
Because that’s what makes the perfect gift: warm wishes and loving thoughts, regardless of what the gift is. (And that is something all of us, though we are not Santa, can give.)
Enter into Santa’s workshop, and enter into a world of joyful work.
